Josie had thanked him and kept driving, because the Hollister wedding cake was in her back seat and the Hollister wedding was at noon tomorrow.

Forty minutes later her car was in a snowbank outside the Warren General Store, and the same plow was pulling in behind her. The driver climbed down, looked at the car, looked at the cake box she was holding like a newborn, and said, “Store’s got a wood stove. Nobody’s going anywhere till Thursday.”
